Tapper Watson and the Quest for the Nemo Machine

Book Synopsis

Tapper Watson is just an ordinary Erisean boy who loves adventure stories. But when one of his sixty-seven cousins sends him away on a smugglers’ submarine through the River Lethe to other worlds, he just wants to go home again. On an unscheduled visit to Earth he meets Fern Shakespeare, and a talking plant called Morse, and their adventures begin. And when he finds himself being chased through worlds by a pair of trigger-happy lobster mobsters in search of the mysterious Nemo Machine, Tapper begins to realise that he might not be so ordinary after all…

Our Review Panel says...

Tapper Watson and the Quest for the Nemo machine is a wonderfully exciting and adventure-filled story for children in KS2.

The story begins in another world, far away from Earth and a boy called Tapper. He is sent away on a smuggler’s submarine by his cousins and really wants to find his way home. Soon into his travels, he meets his new friend, Fern Shakespeare and a very strange talking plant called Morse. The three unlikely travelling companions then embark on a race against time…will they get home or will the Nemo Machine take their memories forever?

The book is a joy to read and would be perfect for a class story; particularly if you are looking at contrasting localities or underwater themes; there is so much to talk about in the story! It is exciting and, as you can imagine from Claire Fayers, has gentle humour and some brilliantly unexpected twists and turns which is perfect for this age group.
