The Dinky Donkey is the wonderful sequel to the international bestseller The Wonky Donkey by Craig Smith. It is a charming tale about the child Wonky Donkey had. The illustrations by Catz Cowley will engage young children as they get to know Hee Haw, the little donkey. The text is an excellent example of rhyming patterns, and it is one that children will be able to recount by heart after only a couple of times of reading this lovely story. Each page adds extra information about Hee Haw, including details about her appearance and hobbies. Every page illustrates the details being described, including Hee Haw’s beautiful long eyelashes, her love of rowdy music and how she likes to wear wild sunglasses. Children can also follow along with the extra details such as trying to spot the hummingbird hidden on each page. The story introduces a range of interesting vocabulary such as ‘wild’ and ‘rowdy’ that can be explored with young children. There is also a comedic theme to the story too and children will laugh along to some of the funnier elements, such as Hee Haw needing to ‘go pee pee’. This is an excellent story that all young children, and adults, will enjoy to read over and over again. The perfect partner to The Wonky Donkey.
