‘Why Water’s Worth It’ is an informative picture book aimed at teaching children why water is valuable and what changes they can make in their everyday lives to conserve and not waste water. The book starts by exploring different uses for water, moving on to how our water is cleaned at treatment centres before closing with ideas for children to consider on how they can use less water.
This book is easily accessible to pupils from a young age with the story being told in a simple way. With only a small amount of text on most pages until the final double-page-spread, most of the story is told through the lovely pictures. The final pages, which are more text heavy, titled ‘Small Actions, Big Impact’, contain a plethora of facts about water usage and tips for reducing water use. Older children may enjoy these final pages and thinking about which tips they can try to follow.
Teaching our pupils to be caring-global-citizens is vitally important and this book would provide EYFS and KS1 teachers with a great platform to discuss why it is important to take care of our planet and what taking care of our natural resources looks like in action to young children.
