Do you worry about monsters hiding under the bed? Well, worry no more. The Goodnight Laboratory has undertaken a range of tests to find ways to get rid of these creatures. By following their ‘Ultimate Survival Guide To Monsters Under The Bed’ you can make sure that you will never be bothered by monsters ever again.
This book is great for any fantasy creature enthusiast. It’s absolutely packed full of different types of monsters- furry monsters, cute monsters, doughnut monsters. There’s a wonderful double-page spread featuring a labelled diagram of a particularly smelly monster. Children would be inspired to create their own imaginative creature and then develop accompanying descriptive vocabulary.
It would be a great choice for KS1 classes exploring instructional texts. The guidebook is divided into steps and has other features such as diagrams. The pupils could decide whether the text needs other features such as subheadings and ‘What You Need’ lists. They could write their own additions and annotations to add to the Survival Guide. This book could also be used to introduce persuasive techniques in LKS2 classes. The text is full of rhetorical questions (“but does it work?”) and other techniques to persuade the reader to follow their steps in order to have a monster-free bedroom!
The book suggests that brushing your teeth and having a big soapy bubble bath are great ways to repel monsters. This allows for an opportunity to discuss bedtime routines and personal hygiene.
This fun, brightly-coloured book is a fun addition to the classroom or home! I’ll be sure to follow this guide with my daughter to ensure that her room is free of monsters!
