As the sixth and final book in this series about twins Scarlet and Ivy and their adventures at Rookwood School, the author is very clearly bringing the story to its conclusion. Readers will enjoy this most if they have read the rest of the series, as there is obviously much which has gone before and which can only be surmised from events and some explanations.
Scarlet and Ivy’s deceased mother was a former pupil of Rookwood, where she was a member of a group called the Whispers in the Walls, using codes and solving mysteries. These included the suspicious death of another pupil and an evil headmaster.
Returning to the boarding school after a bleak Christmas with a hostile stepmother and stepbrothers and a somewhat distracted father, Scarlet and Ivy discover that the son of the former headmaster now owns the school. He seems determined to close it down but the girls, with their friends, set out to uncover long hidden secrets and thwart his plans.
The story is told alternately by Scarlet and Ivy. The book would most likely appeal to readers who enjoy school and mystery stories, and I’m sure many would be tempted by the attractive and striking cover.
