Once upon a Unicorn Horn offers an ultra-modern fairy-tale full of messages of love, friendship and individuality.
The young girl at the centre of the tale (June) has the coolest parents in the world and a house to die for. She’s a climber, explorer, adventurer and best of all, a wonderful friend. When she stumbles upon magical horses learning to fly in the forest around her home, she tries everything to help one struggling foal in its dream of flight. Then one day, an unlikely solution comes to mind.
This story is a true lesson in compassion and friendship. The emotions that the characters experience are made real though Beatrice Blue’s wonderful artwork and clever storytelling. Children will be enchanted by the beauty of this book and its heart-warming characters.
This book complements literacy work around traditional tales perfectly and would certainly help children appreciate that differences are to be celebrated, as will as giving a message that any struggle can be overcome with the helping hand and touch of magic that only a friend can give.
