Bushbaby felt fine before he left home, but once he’s left he realizes that actually, he really really needs a wee. He wiggles and he jiggles trying desperately to keep it in. He tries to go behind a bush only to discover a big, hairy scary bear has beaten him to it. When he finally finds a toilet there’s a huge queue. Can he hold on? Will he get to the toilet in time? And what happens once he has been?
This is a really funny book, told in rhyme, about a situation which most children (and parents) can identify with. The pictures are bright and colourful, and the relief on bushbaby’s face when he finally relieves himself is absolute perfection. My son and I had fun trying to work out whose toilet was who’s in the endpapers and loved comparing our predictions with the answers. I have also read it to a class of three- and four-year-olds who were spellbound (apart from giggles) and loved it too. This is a perfect picture book for parents to share with their children, but is also great for storytime to a larger group. It’s also a really good way to talk to the children about how important it is to go to the toilet before you go out somewhere (just in case you end up being chased by a bear!). Suitable for ages 2-8.
