It’s creepy and it’s kooky, mysterious and spooky, it’s altogether ooky, yes, you’ve guessed it – the Addams family are back! Based on the upcoming animated movie, The Addams Family is a comic new adventure featuring the gloriously macabre clan.
After being run out of town by a pitch-fork wielding mob during their wedding, Morticia and Gomez head for New Jersey and set up home in a defunct insane asylum shrouded in mist. In due course, Wednesday and Pugsley arrive, and old favourites Lurch, Fester and Thing are here too in all their ghastly glory.
But, when Margaux Needler and her interior design TV show drain the nearby swamp and set about developing a perfectly bland suburban estate, the scene is set for a hilarious clash of cultures. Wednesday is going through a teenage rebellion (rainbow hair slides and khaki shorts!), not to mention that Pugsley’s Sabre Mazurka ceremony is coming up, with all the Addams extended family arriving for the big party…. What could possibly go wrong?
Whip-cracking along from set piece to set piece, and with only 160 wide-spaced pages, the Addams family is a perfect Hallowe’en read for Year 3-4 children in need of a spooky thrill while also sending a clear message of the need for tolerance of diversity.
