Book Title: Frog vs Toad (available here)
Author/Ilustrator: Ben Mantle
Publication Date: June 2021
Most Suitable for: EYFS & KS1
Can you tell the difference between a frog and a toad? They may look similar from a distance, but here’s a fun new story that makes it clear that they are very, completely different creatures…
Frog is a frog and Toad is a toad. There’s no doubt about it in their minds – they are certainly not the same thing. For a start, Toad is sure that he is not slimy or long-legged like Frog, and Frog is certain that he is very different indeed from his tiny-eyed, lumpy counterpart. When a well-meaning fly mistakes the pair for two frogs, it doesn’t take long for an argument about their differences to turn into a full-blown mud fight.
Fortunately, an alligator comes along at the right moment (or is it a crocodile….?) and Frog and Toad begin to see things in a new light.
This is a good-humoured and fun story about celebrating differences and working together with others. We loved the fun details in the illustrations, as well as the over-arching themes of reconciliation and joy that’s found in putting things right after a disagreement.
