Join a girl and her dog as they go on an exciting voyage through our solar system. Their adventure begins at the sun and continues on, past Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, through the asteroid belt, past the rest of the planets in our solar system and out into the Kuiper belt (where you’ll discover the recently demoted Pluto). Each double page spread is gorgeously illustrated in full colour and is full of information about the chosen planet, from its appearance to what it is like on the surface. Each page also has lots of information boxes containing fascinating facts (did you know that ‘asteroid’ means ‘star-like’?).

This is a beautifully illustrated book, full of colour and life. The fact boxes help break the information down as well as being inviting to read (especially for those children who don’t like dense chunks of text). It is refreshing to see an information book written in such an informal manner – almost like you are being spoken to by a tour guide.

This book will appeal to all of KS2 (though younger children would love the pictures and the information is written in a way which would be lovely to read out loud). The cover glows in the dark and the book comes with a large glow-in-the-dark pull-out wall poster which would work equally well on a classroom wall as on a bedroom wall.

This would make a great factual book for a classroom, especially for independent study, or simply reading for pleasure.
