“There’s nothing broken in the world that cannot be fixed, if people have the will to fix it. We need to work together, in all our differences.” When Witches Borough starts to die, and the water dries up, everyone is keen to fix the world, but no-one knows how. Mup (a young witch princess) knows that her Grandmother is to blame and will do anything to help the people and get their land back to normality. While Mup’s mother is busy trying to unite the kingdom’s magic to renew the land, a raggedy witch called Magda storms into the kingdom. She takes Mup and her best friend Crow captive as she tries to rebuild her relationship with the powerful Grandmother and will take down anyone or anything in her path that tries to stop her. While travelling and forcing Mup to use her magic to show her the way, Magda does not count on how Mup’s allies and friendships will impact her plan. Everything comes to a head with ash and magic. Will Magda succeed in her plan?
The Promise Witch is the third in ‘The Wild Magic Trilogy’ and is full of magic, adventure and bravery. The book was easy to read and each chapter was illustrated with a small intricate picture. I would recommend this series to Upper Key Stage 2 classes and it would be an enjoyable book to use as a class reader due to its adventurous nature and cliff-hanger chapters.
