“I’ll believe you when…” is a wonderful collection of idioms from around the world, beautifully illustrated by the talented Raquel Bonita and themed on global equivalents of the English idiom 'pigs might fly'.
Older children may like to predict what each idiom is going to be based on the illustrations and the country of origin, making it a really useful scaffolding tool for writing idioms further up the school. The book can also also be enjoyed by much younger readers who will enjoy the absurdity of the statements and spotting the characters from each idiom hidden away on subsequent pages.
Useful also as a discussion point for why different idioms might come from different countries and cultures as the source of the idioms is laid out via maps of the world, on two-page spreads at the beginning and end of the book.
This book is short but the potential for use in the classroom expands every time I return to it. A real gem.
