Booklist: Recommended Children’s Books for Book Friday
Step aside Black Friday – here at BooksForTopics we’re renaming it BOOK Friday! And to celebrate, we asked some of our favourite authors and Reading for Pleasure advocates to let us know their top recommendations for young readers, along with a five-word review.
Chris Bradford (Gamer) describes Phil Earle’s Northern Soul as hilarious, cool, heartfelt, soulful and brilliant, while Karen McCombie (My Perfect Cousin) says Catherine Johnson’s Dance of Resistance is inspiring, vivid, insightful, thought-provoking and accessible. Rowan Foxwood’s Magpie Girl is spellbinding, beautiful, fantastical, folkloric and tender, according to Ashley Thorpe (Spirit Warriors), and Emily-Jane Clark’s Cringe Club is contemporary, zingy, cringy, funny and snappy – recommended by Alex Milway (Hotel Flamingo).
We want your school to be involved too! Encourage your pupils to share their own favourite book recommendations this Friday too. We’ve got a free printable resource pack filled with pupil book recommendation ideas like bunting, bookmarks and activity sheets to give you everything you need to join in the Book Friday fun at your school.
Whether you’re looking for treasure and secrets, humour and heart, travel and adventure, or resilience and hope, there’s something for every young reader in this list. Read on to find out what YOUR favourite authors recommend! You can also download a set of printable Book Friday posters here, on which you can find the recommendations and five-word reviews.
