It’s easy to feel lost in the flood of so many new children’s books available. Each month, our Review Panel reads scores of new books and we highlight five of our recently published favourites.

This month, our panel of experienced teachers, librarians and children’s book experts has carefully selected five outstanding titles for you to read, with a mixture of longer and shorter reads to engage and excite young readers.

For younger readers, The Big Green is a beautiful picturebook that tells the story of a fictional family and their involvement in a large-scale, real-life environmental project in Africa.

Themes of friendship and courage feature alongside dragons and quests in Dragon Girl and the Awakened Flames, a book full of adventure and humour which our reviewer recommends for lower KS2.

Two historical fiction titles for KS2 feature in this month’s selections. Judith Eagle’s The Blitz Sisters is a poignant and compelling story of WW2 and its impact on the lives of three sisters who experience evacuation, rationing, bombing and loss. Iszi Lawrence’s The Domesday Cows also features sisters, this time in a humorous look at the culture clash between the Anglo-Saxons and the Normans.

The final pick in this month’s list is a great choice for tweens who are navigating changes like the transition to secondary school. Fans of Lottie Brooks will love The Overthinkers’ Club: Happy List, which our reviewer loved for its “laugh-out-loud moments… supportive friendships and a caring family”.
