It’s easy to feel lost in the flood of so many new children’s books available. Each month, our Review Panel reads scores of new books and we highlight five of our recently published favourites.

This month, our panel of experienced teachers, librarians and children’s book experts has carefully selected five outstanding titles for you to read, with a mixture of fiction and fact, and longer and shorter reads to engage and excite young readers.

For younger readers, The Map of Me is a beautiful picturebook about moving home and making connections, which our reviewer said “does so much in just a few pages” with potential curriculum links across a range of topic areas.

Fans of Bunny vs Monkey and Dog Man will love Tiny Hercules, a graphic novel full of comic humour about the adventures of a miniature mythical hero, while for readers who enjoy the diary-style of Wimpy Kid, Hari Kumar, Ultimate Superstar is a highly illustrated story with a neurodivergent hero who dreams of Bollywood stardom.

This month’s picks include two titles aimed at readers in upper KS2 upwards. Rob Biddulph‘s Last Wolf is a spectacularly illustrated chapter book that reimagines the legend of the werewolf to explore ideas like power, fear-mongering and the importance of evidence, while Sara Pennypacker’s The Lions’ Run is a WW2-based animal rescue story with themes of courage and family.
