When they become separated, the cub must brave the wild with the friends he meets along the way, to return to his mother and find the sanctuary he dreams of. This incredible new picture book, written by Felicity Yeoh and illustrated by Megan Snyders, carries an important message about Malaysia’s endangered harimau tigers, as well as beautifully exploring themes of family, friendship and home.

The Kingdom of the Tigers is a very special book that explores important themes in a thoughtful, age-appropriate way. It gently introduces young readers to deforestation and its impact on the Malayan tiger, encouraging meaningful discussions about how we can help protect both the tigers and their rainforest home.

The story creates a real sense of suspense when it appears that the young tiger’s mother has been killed by the men transporting logs from felled trees. Thankfully, the ending is uplifting as the pair are reunited in the Kingdom of the Tigers.

The gentle rhyming text makes the book enjoyable and engaging to read aloud. The illustrations are distinctive, with a soft, fluid style that draws the eye. Every page is full of fascinating details, inviting children to discover something new each time they revisit the story, whether it’s the animals, the jungle, or the hidden elements within the artwork.

At the back of the book, acclaimed actor Michelle Yeoh has written a heartfelt letter highlighting the plight of the Malayan tiger and the devastating effects of deforestation on its survival.
