Storm is a stunning picture book showing how a storm affects a beach. It covers the build-up to the storm, the quiet, expectant waiting, crabs scuttling through rock pools and birds flying in the sky. This changes as the storm approaches, creatures start searching for shelter. Then the storm hits, big, bold bolts of lightning and large, looming clouds, beautifully illustrated on fold-out pages showing the magnitude of the violence of the storm hitting the sea. Then the aftermath of the storm, things returning to normal, waves calming, clouds clearing, creatures slowly reappearing.

The words are lyrical and descriptive. The illustrations are evocative and colourful. This is a beautiful picture book which would lend itself well to a range of topics, from creative writing to a study of the seashore or the weather, or just as a lovely book to share at story time.
