Book Synopsis

Your body is amazing, learn all about what it can do!

Young readers will love discovering incredible facts about their body.

ALL BODIES ARE DIFFERENT! Your own body is unique and special to YOU. But all bodies have lots of the same parts. Did you know your body has over 200 bones and over 600 muscles?

Put your hand on your chest – can you feel your heart beating? It does that around 6,000 times an hour, which is about 52 million times a year!

That’s just the start of what you will discover in this fantastic full-colour book from the UK’s most loved GP.

Topics include:
Bones and the human skeleton
Organs and senses
Muscles
Heart, blood, veins and arteries
The brain, personality, thinking and feeling
Food and the digestive system
What happens when you get sick and how to stay healthy

With clear and engaging illustrations, children will love looking inside the human body at all its amazing abilities. From pumping blood to the journey your food goes on, this is a fantastic first look at human anatomy.

Written by Dr Emily MacDonagh, a practising NHS doctor.

Mother of three and step-mother to two, Dr Emily lives with her husband Peter Andre and their children in Surrey. This is Dr Emily’s fourth book for children.

Our Review Panel says...

In this human anatomy fact book for younger children, Dr Emily shows us just how extraordinary our ordinary bodies are.

Beautifully laid out, with big bold central illustrations, the book swiftly dives through the elements that make up our amazing bodies, from bones to muscles, organs, digestive system, senses and the brain. With just enough detail to be truly informative, such as detailing the functions of each organ, key muscles and bones, a dissection of a brain, a diagram of the heart and ear, there are also enough cute illustrations of children and dogs for it to be attractive rather than dry.

The end explores staying healthy, how the body deals with sickness such as exploring scabbing over grazes for example, this is an excellent primer for curious future doctors (and everyone small who wants to know more about their bodies!).
