‘Life In The Wild’ is a fantastic non-fiction book that focuses on ten unique and interesting animals, found all over the world, including tiger sharks, albatross’ and jaguars. Described by author, Lizzie Daly, as a book that intersects between science, storytelling, adventure and conservation, this book will certainly inform and entertain any who read it and could certainly be used to further develop scientific understanding of living things.

For each animal focus, readers are given interesting factual information about the animals’ habitat, feeding habits and their young. They are also given a story example of each animal, which has been tagged and tracked by scientists. This is quite refreshing for a non-fiction book. In particular, each animal story is summarised with a ‘What have we learned?’ which offers scientific reflection about conservation and habitats for these animals. This book helps the reader to understand some of the plights facing these animals due to our ever-changing world, and readers may find some of these facts, for example how much further these animals are travelling for food or their changing habitats, both interesting and somewhat harrowing. The wonderful illustrations, by Chiara Fedele, also help readers to visually see this. Key facts are presented in a bold format or through subheadings, making this book further accessible for less confident readers.
