The book follows Dora and all the excuses she comes up with not to go to the party she has been invited to. We read all the funny but relatable reasons Dora comes up with not to attend. Dora then meets Tom, and their joint dislike of loud noises and parties enables them to enjoy their time in a different way. This is a book that will have your class laughing but also help them to understand how thinking or feeling differently to others is okay.

This book would really help children who are anxious or struggling with an upcoming party or class event. It demonstrates that there are often others feeling similarly to you and that it is okay to enjoy events in different ways. I Really, Really Don’t Like Parties could be used to help open up class discussions and be used to help support children who are feeling the same way as Dora or Tom.
